Seven professionals with decades of experience in forestry, timber, wood products manufacturing, architecture, real estate development, and business analytics collaborated to examine and report on the current state of the mass timber industry and its prospects for the future.

ROY ANDERSON

VICE PRESIDENT | THE BECK GROUP

Roy has more than 30 years of forestry and forest products industry experience, including completion of two CLT manufacturing feasibility studies. He also spoke about mass timber lumber supply at the 2016 International Mass Timber Conference.

EMILY DAWSON

AIA.LEED AP

Emily implements mass-timber solutions, seeing projects through from feasibility to construction. In 2013, she designed the first Cross- Laminated Timber structure built in Oregon. Inspired by her studies of European mass-timber and prefabrication applications, Emily uses more off-site fabrication approaches in her work. She is driven by her commitment to transforming the way we build toward a truly circular construction economy, and her portfolio of sustainably-focused projects spans twenty years. She received her degree in architecture from Cornell University. 

DAVE ATKINS

SUSTAINABILIST, FORESTER, ECOLOGIST, WRITER

Dave introduced the U.S. Forest Service leadership to CLT in 2010 and helped launch their participation in its development. He retired from the USFS in 2014 but continues to work at the nexus of forest management and wood products to help create the balance between social, economic and environmental needs of a carbon neutral society, from biochar to mass timber to resilient sustainable forests.

LECH MUSZYNSKI

PROFESSOR | OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY

Dr. Lech Muszynski is a professor in the Department of Wood Science and Engineering at Oregon State University. A native of Poland, he received his MS in Wood Technology and PhD in Forestry and Wood Technology from the University of Life Sciences in Poznan, Poland. Lech joined OSU in 2004. Since 2010, one of the focus areas of his research has been cross-laminated timber (CLT) technology and other mass timber panel (MTP) products. Lech has toured MTP manufacturing plants, construction sites, MTP-focused research centers, and related businesses across the globe.

PETER MOONEN

NATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER, CANADIAN WOOD COUNCIL

Peter Moonen studied marine biology, zoology, and forestry at the University of British Columbia. Over the last 30 years, he has advanced understanding of wood products, construction, and forests as, in part, National Sustainability Manager for the Canadian Wood Council (CWC).  A member of the Low Carbon-Assets through Life Cycle Assessment
